HEAVY RAIN AND THUNDERSTORMS RAISE FLOOD THREAT ACROSS THE SOUTHERN PLAINS
A powerful stretch of unsettled weather is impacting parts of the Southern Plains, where repeated rounds of heavy rain and thunderstorms are increasing the risk of flash flooding across portions of Texas, Oklahoma, and nearby areas. Some communities have already seen saturated ground and water collecting in low-lying neighborhoods, while additional rainfall could create dangerous travel conditions through the day.
Forecasters are watching areas where storms may repeatedly move over the same locations, allowing rainfall totals to build quickly. That raises the risk of flooded roads, overflowing drainage systems, rapidly rising creeks, and temporary closures in vulnerable communities. Drivers are being urged to use extra caution, especially during periods of heavier rain when visibility can drop quickly.
Residents in flood-prone areas should continue monitoring weather alerts and avoid attempting to cross roads covered by water. Conditions are expected to gradually improve as the storm system moves east, but additional thunderstorms could still create localized problems before drier weather returns.
