The Knowles-Rowland House features 31 permanent supportive housing units and was developed through a partnership involving Bread of Life, Inc., and St. John's Downtown Church. The property previously served as the Knowles-Rowland Center for Youth, a community facility established in 1999 with support from Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland during the early years of Destiny's Child. Following damage from Hurricane Harvey and a subsequent fire, the building was redeveloped to address Houston's growing need for stable housing and assistance for vulnerable residents.
During the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Beyoncé and Rowland reflected on their longstanding connection to the church and the importance of investing in their community. The development will provide residents with access to supportive services, including counseling, case management, and assistance designed to promote long-term stability. The celebration also featured appearances by Blue Ivy and Rumi Carter, highlighting a multigenerational commitment to service. The opening marks a significant milestone in the singers' philanthropic efforts and demonstrates how entertainment figures can use their influence to support lasting community development.
