HALLE BERRY'S EX-HUSBAND SEEKS $240,000. HE WANTS HER TO PAY HIS LEGAL FEES. THEIR CUSTODY DISPUTE CONTINUES.
Academy Award-winning actress Halle Berry is facing another legal request from her former husband, Olivier Martinez, amid their ongoing custody dispute. According to court documents reported Wednesday, Martinez is asking a Los Angeles judge to order Berry to pay $240,000 toward his attorney fees. The French actor claims he cannot afford the growing legal expenses associated with their case. The request comes days after a judge issued a temporary custody ruling involving the former couple's 13-year-old son.
According to reports from TMZ and the Daily Mail, Martinez is seeking $176,522.58 in unpaid attorney fees and an additional $63,477.42 for anticipated legal expenses. In his financial declaration, Martinez reportedly listed average monthly residual earnings of $776.34, estimated monthly expenses of $17,555.99 and approximately $43,206 in financial accounts. He argues that a substantial difference in financial resources between himself and Berry justifies requiring her to contribute toward his legal representation.
The latest request follows an October 29 court decision in which a judge dissolved a temporary domestic violence restraining order against Berry and denied Martinez's request to make it permanent. However, Martinez retained primary physical custody of their son under a temporary arrangement, while Berry continues to share legal custody. Berry has denied the abuse allegations raised during the proceedings and has sought to restore their previous shared physical custody arrangement.
A judge has not been reported to have approved Martinez's latest request for legal fees. It also remains unclear whether Berry has formally responded to the new financial demand. The former couple's custody proceedings remain ongoing, with additional court consideration expected as both parties address their parental responsibilities and financial disagreements.
