According to the official announcement, Pharrell produced the album in full and contributed to its songwriting. The project draws inspiration from several traditions in Black music. Those influences include gospel, classic soul, doo-wop, Afrobeat and hip-hop. The musicians have maintained a creative relationship spanning more than two decades. Their latest collaboration brings that history into a new studio project.
The album's lead single, Daylight, was released alongside its announcement. Additional promotional material has highlighted the song Fireflies. The recordings provide an introduction to the project's sound before the complete album becomes available. Apple Music lists the upcoming release with 16 tracks. The album is categorized as R&B and soul on the streaming platform.
The release arrives during a competitive period for major music projects. Legend remains recognized for his piano-driven performances and extensive recording career. Pharrell brings a production history that crosses several musical genres. Listeners will be able to evaluate the full collaboration when the album is released. Muse is scheduled to arrive on October 23 across participating music platforms.
