Giants quarterback Jameis Winston was replaced by J.J. McCarthy after throwing two interceptions. McCarthy immediately brought renewed energy to New York's offense. The quarterback helped the Giants score 17 unanswered points during the final 11 minutes. His performance narrowed what had been a 24-point deficit. New York eventually reached the Saints' 14-yard line with another opportunity to score.

The Giants' final chance ended when McCarthy's fourth-down pass toward Isaiah Likely fell incomplete in the end zone. New York committed four turnovers during the contest. The Saints benefited from those mistakes while establishing control of the game. New Orleans quarterback Tyler Shough accounted for three passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown. The Saints also produced 175 rushing yards in the victory.

The loss dropped the Giants to a 3–2–1 record. New Orleans improved to 2–4 and ended a three-game losing streak. McCarthy's late performance has created discussion about New York's starting quarterback position. Head coach John Harbaugh said after the game that a decision had not yet been made. The Giants will now prepare for their next matchup against the Houston Texans.
