The New York Rangers continued their strong opening stretch of the 2026–27 NHL season Tuesday night, defeating the Tampa Bay Lightning 4–1 at Madison Square Garden. The victory extended New York's undefeated home record to 5–0–0 and reinforced the team's early-season momentum. The Rangers controlled the opening period and maintained their advantage through disciplined defensive play and timely offensive production.

Forward Alexis Lafrenière led New York with two first-period goals, giving the Rangers an early advantage and continuing his productive start to the season. Tye Kartye assisted on both goals, while Will Cuylle extended the lead during the second period. Mika Zibanejad completed the scoring with a shorthanded empty-net goal late in the third period. Tampa Bay's only goal came from Zemgus Girgensons.

Goaltender Dylan Garand delivered a reliable performance in place of the injured Igor Shesterkin, recording 25 saves and limiting Tampa Bay's scoring opportunities. New York's defensive effort helped protect its lead against a Lightning team that entered the contest riding a four-game winning streak. The Rangers' ability to maintain pressure while controlling dangerous scoring chances proved critical throughout the matchup.

The victory gave New York its fifth consecutive home win to begin the season and strengthened its position during the opening weeks of the NHL schedule. Lafrenière's continued scoring production has provided the Rangers with an important offensive spark, while contributions throughout the lineup have helped establish consistency. With Madison Square Garden emerging as an early advantage, New York will look to carry its momentum into the coming games.
