Written and directed by Perry, the film follows Isaac, a struggling pastor portrayed by R&B singer Tank, who inherits his family's church in a troubled New York City neighborhood. Alongside his wife Rebecca, played by Fantasia, Isaac must confront personal struggles, temptation, and growing challenges that threaten his family, faith, and congregation. The ensemble includes gospel icons Fred Hammond, Hezekiah Walker, the Clark Sisters, and several other celebrated vocalists, with Grammy-winning musician Kirk Franklin overseeing the film's music production.

The upcoming release represents another major collaboration between Perry and Netflix, continuing the filmmaker's commitment to creating stories centered on Black families, communities, and cultural experiences. For Fantasia, the project marks another significant acting role following her acclaimed performance in The Color Purple. With its combination of established recording artists, spiritual themes, and holiday storytelling, The Gospel of Christmas is positioned to become one of Netflix's most notable Black-led entertainment releases of the season.
